Backpack Weekend Food Ministry (RES)
rest Church is partnering with other area Churches + Reidland Elementary school to provide non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food to children to ensure they get enough food for weekends. Ultimately this ministry helps students avoid hunger when they can’t depend on school meals.
FAQ
GENERAL QUESTIONS
WHAT IS THE NEED?
*Bags of weekend food/snacks are needed for 60 different children at Reidland Elementary School. These students need help to have food over the weekend, where school provided meals aren’t available for them. rest Church will provide these bags every 7 weeks in coordination with RES and other area Churches.
What types of foods are packed?
*Each bag should include the following food items: 2 Breakfast Items, 2 Entree Items, and 2 Snack Items.
Contents of bags ideas/suggestions: Applesauce, Granola bars/Breakfast bars, Fruit snacks, Peanut butter crackers, Mac n Cheese (add water, microwaveable), Chef-Boyardee, Micro Meal Cups, Goldfish crackers, Pop-tarts, Cereal cups, Slim Jim’s, Dried Mashed Potatoes (add water, microwaveable), Raisins, and Fruit Cups.
What are the guidelines?
*We recommend purchasing store and/or generic brands for foods, as these prices are more cost effective. Food items should be single serving and easy to prepare. Keep in mind that canned food items should have pop-tops as not everyone has access to a can opener. Also, keep in mind that many children will be preparing these food items for themselves.
Additional food items may be included in the bags, however please do not include candy or gum.
What is the general cost?
*The average cost per bag = $5. Considering there are over 60 students we want to either provide the food or raise +$300 for this every 7 weeks.
